Astro, what a handsome guy! An ex-puppy mill dog
(Did you know that Missouri is home to so many large-scale dog breeding operations that it’s often called “the puppy mill capital of the world”? And that November 2nd’s ballot will include Proposition B, a piece of legislation designed to curb some – not enough, but some – of the worst abuses? Well, now you do! Go to yesonpropb.com for more. No-kill advocate Nathan Winograd also wrote an excellent analysis of the bill here.)
with a pair of impossibly deep brown eyes, Astro is currently staying just outside the Kansas City area, in Lawrence, Kansas.
Here’s what his peeps at the Lawrence Humane Society have to say about dear Astro:
Astro
Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler Mix: An adoptable dog in Lawrence, KS
Medium • Adult • MaleA curious expression and alert eyes will attract you to Astro, who is a very good looking dog. He is an Australian cattle dog and blue heeler mix, about 2 years old, and weighs 32 pounds. His evenly marked black and white coat is short and smooth, and is accented with gray ticking on his legs, chest, and face. He looks like he has been playing with a pepper shaker, which makes him all the more handsome.
Astro was seized from a large animal breeder, so he likely has not been given much attention. Therefore he is still nervous and timid, and he needs a patient pet parent to help bring him out of his shell and build his confidence. Astro has good recall, good manners, and wants so badly to find someone to love. He has a lot of energy and will need a fenced yard or country home where he can exercise. His new parent will need to take extra time to acclimate him to new surroundings, as a loving home is something new to this…
Though he didn’t begin his life in the happiest of places, Astro hasn’t yet given up on humans; in fact, he’s eager to find a family to call his own. Maybe this is you and yours? If so, get in touch with the Lawrence Humane Society today. (And remember to vote YES ON PROP B come November 2nd!)
